Delegation from the School of Civil Engineering of Southwest Jiaotong University attends the Expert Meetings held by the Infrastructure and Rolling Stock Commission of OSJD in Bulgaria

To make the best of the results and achievement of the OSJD visit by a delegation headed by Secretary Wang Shunhong, to further promote the SWJTU Internationalization Strategy and strengthen cooperation with international organizations, to better understand international railway frontiers and deeply engage in the formulation of international railway standards for more says in international railway affairs, and to exalt the reputation and influence of SWJTU, from June 26th to 28th, Gou Hongye, Assistant to the Dean of School of Civil Engineering, SWJTU, Professor Li Xiaozhen from Department of Bridge Engineering, and Associate Professor Yang Wenbo from Department of Underground Engineering, at the invitation of conference organizer, attended the expert meeting themed Review of Comprehensive Issues related to Substructure, Bridge and Tunnel buildings under the topic of Railway Lines, Bridge and Tunnel Buildings held by the Infrastructure and Rolling Stock Commission of OSJD, as an effort to serve the Belt and Road initiative and seek more international influence of SWJTU to build the university one of the worlds best universities in the field of railway transportation. More than 20 experts from the Commission attended the meeting.

The agenda and contents of the meeting include the following:

Draft of the Memorandum on the Supporting Bed of Subgrade on Unballasted Track Bridge manufactured with Composite Materials ;

Revision of the 708 Memorandum on Recommendations for Laying Seamless Lines on Unballasted Track Bridge;

Draft of the Memorandum on Damage of Subgrade and Mitigation Methods (draft)

Submission of materials related to Technical Conditions for the Use of Sound Barriers and Noise Reduction Walls;

Submission of information related to Use of Anchorage Systems and Composite Materials to Reinforce Railway Tunnel Lining;

Submission of materials concerning Parameters for Subgrade of Railway with Ballasted Superstructure and Running Speed at 160 km/h and above;

Submission of material titled Safety of Railway Tunnels;

and ddraft of Standards for Maintenance and Repair of Bridge and Tunnel Buildings, etc.

Mr. Gou Hongye firstly introduced the R&D results achieved by SWJTU in the field of railway transportation, and highlighted outstanding efforts the university has made in the study and application of Chinese high-speed railway technologies. At the same time, he pointed out that the School of Civil Engineering of SWJTU has building on advantages in disciplines, talents, platforms, R&D and research achievements, and expressed the desire of the school to cooperate with the Infrastructure and Rolling Stock Commission of OSJD.

At the meeting, Professor Li Xiaozhen made a report on the Technical Standards for Chinese High-speed Railway Bridge Engineering, and Study on Vibration and Noise Reduction of Semi-or Fully-Enclosed Noise Barriers of High Speed Railways, an informative speech concerning technical standards for Chinese high-speed railway bridge engineering, standards for maintenance and repair of high-speed railway bridge, as well as structure, manufacturing and material, codes and application of the Chinese high-speed railway sound barrier.

Associate Professor Yang Wenbo delivered a wonderful speech entitled Current Standards of Chinese Railway Tunnel Engineering, introducing the information concerning the use of anchorage systems to reinforce railway tunnel lining, standards for operation safety of railway tunnels and requirements of maintenance and repair of bridge and tunnel buildings.

The reports of the two professors were highly acknowledged and appreciated by Vopalecky Radovan, Chairman of the Infrastructure and Rolling Stock Commission, and other OSJD experts.

During the three-day meeting and discussions, professors from our School aired their opinions on the eight drafts and materials and shared Chinese practices and experiences with those present. Experts expressed their willingness to refer to Chinese standards, in the formulation of standards next year.

At the meeting, the Infrastructure and Rolling Stock Commission of OSJD and SWJTU have reached the following consensus, which was written down in the meeting memorandum. In 2019, SWJTU will participate in drafting a series of OSJD standards and codes, namely, Technical Conditions for the Application of Sound Barriers and Noise Reduction Walls, Use of Anchorage Systems and Composite Materials to Reinforce Railway Tunnel Lining, Standards of Railway Tunnel Safety and Requirements of Maintenance and Repair of Bridge and Tunnel Buildings.

This meeting highlighted a great progress in promoting cooperation between our university and OSJD in tangible ways and rendered China a greater say in the formulation of international standards and codes. SWJTU, thereby takes a leap forward in serving the Belt and Road initiative.
