Students and Teachers from Chengdu Shude Experimental Middle School Visit the National Engineering Laboratory in SWJTU

Led by Vice Principal Yao Ke, and Teachers Wu Xiaoling and Wang Xiaohong, about 120 students and teachers fromChengdu Shude Experimental Middle School, Grade 2023, visited Xipu campus, Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) on April 14, 2021. All students had a close look at SWJTU: the National Engineering Laboratory in Geohazard Prevention Technology for Land Transportation, University History Museum and Locomotive Museum, and had a deeper understanding about the area of civil engineering by visiting the National Engineering Laboratory, which may be beneficial for their future development.

Wangnan, organizer of the Party Committee of the School of Civil Engineering, extended a warm welcome to all guests fromChengdu Shude Experimental Middle School, and then Shu Lixia, Deputy Director of External Exchange and Cooperation Office of National Engineering Laboratory, and Associate Professor Shao Changjiang, Head of Technical Department, introduced the construction and development of the Laboratory. Next, Vice Principal Yao Ke expressed his sincere gratitude to the National Engineering Laboratory for providing this great opportunity, and hoped the students would learn by careful observation and full commitment.

Wang Nan introduced the shaking table test, the first in the country and the second in the world in terms of comprehensive testing capability, and Professor Shen Yusheng, head of the Experimental Department, explained the ongoing tunnel seismic test to the students, who listened carefully and constantly took notes. The model of Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge also attracted the students so much that they raised many questions.

At last, the teachers and students shared their opinions after this journey including the deeper understanding of and their passion for science by visiting the National Engineering Laboratory, and the students showed their confidence to work harder and to become pioneers of scientific research in the new era in the future.
